Publications

Audette’s published work fell into two categories:

Commissioned art:

Her commissioned art consisted of prints, photographs and paintings. She created woodcut prints for Past and Present: The Continuity of Classical Myths by Meyer Reinhold, and photographs for Click, Rumble, Roar: Poems about Machines, a poetry anthology for children edited by Lee Bennett Hopkins, and Mrs. Dumpty by Chana Bloch. Her paintings accompany poetry by Suzanne Nothnagle in Ruins, Poems and Paintings of a Vanishing America.

Own authorship:

Audette was an accomplished writer and her own work addressed the process of making art. In addition to short articles for various journals, she wrote The Blank Canvas: Inviting the Muse for graduating art students who needed guidance once they were no longer in a formal academic setting. The goal of the book was to help young artists find inspiration and develop their own creative voices.

Feeling that traditional academic drawing instruction was often stale and hackneyed, she later assembled and edited the material for 100 Creative Drawing Ideas, a compilation of innovative exercises contributed by 100 drawing instructors who had developed their own lessons.
